Two weddings and a funeral

Life happens. It just keeps on going…sometimes beautifully and sometimes not at all the way we wish and hope for. I was very much reminded of it when my dear friend’s son, Max, passed away at the much too young age of 4. He was born with a severe heart condition and showed us that living life to the fullest can be accomplished even with unfortunate medical conditions. He was a miracle child and will be dearly remembered and live forever in the hearts of everyone that was lucky enough to get to know him.
With heavy hearts, Heather and I left the funeral service…It seemed somewhat surreal to deliver our blooming creations to the joyous wedding celebrations shortly after attending the service for our little friend. But beautiful and glowing brides, happy parents and joyous attendants made us want to smile again! I guess that is the beauty of life and how it happens…it just keeps on going! Heavy hearts, hearts filled with love and happiness, tears of grief and tears of joy…it all goes hand and hand and it should remind us to live and love every day!

Mother's Day Is Every Day!

Mother’s day always reminds me of a very fond and innocent childhood memory of mine that was tragic then but always makes me smile now.

When I was about 9 years old my sisters and I really wanted to surprise our mom, whose motto: “Mother’s Day is every day” really did not demand to be showered in gifts. But the loving kids that we were, we wanted to shower her with flowers. And so we did. It so occurred that the time of year was perfect for “wild flowers” to bloom all over the perfectly plantscaped ancient Roman ruins in our village. Beautiful blooms EVERYWHERE. We could not help ourselves and as supply was plenty we soon decided that our neighborhood moms deserved flowers as well. We were quite busy with the sole purpose of making mom happy.

Mother’s Day came and we surprised our Mother with about 20 or so beautiful arrangements surrounding my parents bed. Breakfast was ready and coffee was brewing. I still remember the face that my mom made. It was not at all what we were expecting and hoping for. She looked horrified,and it got worse when she found out that all our neighbors had been delighted as well by our “wild flower designs”. There was no denying that her kids had literally picked every bloom that had been lovingly planted around the small town where I grew up.

It took her quite a while to get over the initial shock but in the end we all had a good laugh and yes, she did enjoy the flowers in the end! And so did all the other Moms that we spoiled.

Always remember Mother’s Day is ever day! I love you Mom!

Atlanta Charity Clays

A few weeks ago tulip had the pleasure to sponsor the annual silent auction/ gala of the Atlanta Charity Clays at Novare Event's new venue Summerour. This 20 something year old fundraising alternative looks upon clay shooting as a great way to spend a day in the country, meet with friends who share a love of the outdoors and best of all: raise money for Atlanta area children's charities! Along with Low Country BBQ and Bradford's on Bishop who provided the delicious food, tulip assisted this wonderful organization to shine and look great while raising money for Atlanta area children's charities! In the past 20 years the Atlanta Charity Clays have netted and contributed over $3,000,000 to Atlanta Children’s causes.

Ruthie's Project Runway

When Ruthie's Mom, Michelle met with me to discuss her daughter's Bat Mitzvah, I felt like a kid in a candy store when she told me Ruthie's theme: Project Runway! Not only is the show a favorite, but a regular of mine and the other tulips! So how could we find a way to MAKE IT WORK for Tim Gunn and not bore Heidi?

Ruthie provided her very own sketch drawings and tulip made it Ruthie's Project Runway by incorporating over sized sewing notions, pin cushion inspired floral centerpieces, an Accessory wall, the runway, dress forms, bolts of fabrics and a wonderful, very colorful color scheme. Added Touch Catering literally gave it the Added Touch in the food presentation, Production People rocked the lighting, our friends at Peachtree Tents and Events provided the rental items, Connie Duglin's linen were beautiful and Amber at http://www.twelvehotels.com/AtlanticStation/events/Ballroom.do was the host to a very creative setting. No one wanted to say "Auf Wiedersehen!"

Who is Who in tulip?

Born and raised in Germany with flower shops dotting every corner of my hometown, flowers have always been a huge part of my life. With a natural appreciation of all things floral and loads of creative ideas in floral design, I found my calling by opening "tulip" about 5 years ago. Creating stunning events, out of the box floral and event design, makes my soul smile and satisfies my European roots. But what would tulip be without my dear friend and buiness partner in crime - Heather Jones?!

Born and raised in Columbus, GA, Heather is a home grown natural. She went to school for Interior Design and has a wonderful talent of creating the perfect event illusion and stunning atmospheres by choosing thoughtful compositions of colors, shapes and textures. She has been a part of the Atlanta event industry for 10 years and knows her venues, style and predicts trends like no other! Looking for new (ad)Ventures, we created "tulip floral" a division of tulip that concentrates on floral deliveries and weekly accounts and formed a partnership with Rory Moon, aka "Mr. Tulip".

Rory comes to us with a rich design and culinary background. Also a Georgia native, he grew up on an organic farm and is truely a "Jewel of the Southern Garden". He attended culinary school, has an undergrad in Art History and is blessed with a passion for bringing people together through spectacular food and decor. Formerly the owner of Zinnia Design, he ecompasses trend forward design and thrives with boundless creativity.

A bit of tulip "history"

In so many ways, tulip is ahead of its time but for some reason, creating a tulip blog has taken us way longer than it should have!
For those of you who have asked, inquired and asked again…without further ado – (insert drumroll please)- today’s posting will mark the beginning of tulip’s blog. We will keep you up to speed on all that is blooming at tulip: events, trends, holiday specials and more! We invite all of you who have an appreciation for exceptional and unusual floral design to follow us.

Just a bit of tulip “history”:
tulip was born when Heather and I met at an industry networking event 5 years ago. In many ways I believe my purse is to “blame” for all the wonderful things that happened in the past few years. It (=the purse -now semi retired for not so gentle use) caught Heather’s attention, sparked a conversation and led to us being business partners in crime: the tulip girls.
First designs were created in our “studio” – my kitchen table. We quickly outgrew my storage room and design area and moved to our first official warehouse space in the Old Fourth Ward District. About a year and a half ago, tulip moved to its current location: the 1040 Commercial loft in Grant Park.
tulip is both mine and Heather’s personal dream come true. With Heather (aka Miss tulip) by my side I feel as though I have my non-existent twin next to me: we were born only 4 days apart on 2 different continents.
We love what we do and it shows! We have won numerous industry awards and are very humble and thankful for all the support that our customers and the Atlanta Event Industry (including NACE and ISES) have given us.
